Export for Zoho Books
In Books, go to Purchases › Expenses › Import Expenses and choose this file. Books asks you to match the columns and the date format (yyyy-mm-dd).
Appearance
Categories and spoken words
Each category goes to one Books expense account. Spoken words are what you say to pick it, separated by commas.
Payment methods
“Paid Through” must match the account name in Books (for example your petty cash or bank account).
Remembered suppliers
When you save a receipt, its supplier and category are remembered. Next time you can just say the supplier.
Receipt numbers and VAT
Backup and restore
Your receipts are stored only on this device. Save a backup file regularly, for example to a cloud folder.
Disclaimer
Say It Receipts is a record-keeping aid. It does not give tax, VAT or accounting advice, and it does not decide whether an expense is allowable. Check every entry before you import it into your accounts.
Keep your original receipts for as long as HMRC requires for your type of business. Your data is stored only in this browser on this device; nothing is sent anywhere. If you clear your browser data or lose your device, entries not backed up are lost.
Use of the app is at your own risk. Speech-to-text can mishear amounts and dates, so always check the review cards.
How to use Say It Receipts
Version 2.1 · 28 October 2026
- Pick up a receipt and tap the microphone on your phone keyboard.
- Say the supplier, what it was, the category, the amount, the date and how you paid. Say “next” and carry on with the following receipt.
- Tap Process. Each receipt appears as a card. Anything in amber needs a look.
- Write the reference number shown (for example R-0001) on the paper receipt.
- Tap Save. Then export to Zoho Books from the Receipts tab whenever you like.
Example scenario
This makes three receipts. The second and third take the date from the first; the third also takes “card”.
Words the app understands
- Amounts: £5.25, 5.25, 5 pounds 25, four pounds fifteen, six pounds and five pence, two pounds no pence, 80p. If the app keeps missing an amount, say “amount” first: “amount 5.25”.
- Dates: 23rd October, fourth of July 2025, October 23, 23/10/25, the 23rd, yesterday, today, Monday. “September 2025” on its own uses the 1st and flags the card so you can fix the day.
- Payment and categories: the spoken words listed in Settings, which you can change.
A date with no year that would be in the future is treated as last year. For older receipts, say the year. If the first receipt has no date, today is used. Any receipt that takes its date from the one before is flagged in amber so you can check it.
If you don't say how you paid, the app uses the payment from the receipt before, or your default from Settings › Payment methods.
Suppliers
The first word is taken as the supplier, the rest as the description. If a supplier has two words (Post Office), correct it once on the card; the app remembers it and its category from then on.
Sharing between devices
Data stays on the device you use. To move it, open Settings › Backup and restore, save a backup file to a cloud folder (such as Google Drive or iCloud), then use Restore from file on the other device. Restoring replaces what is on that device.
Exporting to Zoho Books
Download the CSV from the Receipts tab and import it in Books under Purchases › Expenses › Import Expenses. Then tap Mark as exported so the same receipts are not exported twice.
